Photographed seven aspiring models/actors today for Niche casting agency in Cape Town – five young ladies, one boy and one young man. I had to shoot two different looks for each model/actor – 14 looks, and I must say I was impressed with my performance finishing the shoot within my allocated time – four hours! The location was the Island club at Century City, Cape Town. Fashion photography/portraiture can be fun, but I would never choose to shoot so many different individuals in such a short space of time as it does not allow you to be as creative as possible. I also like to have a little more time with the person to find out more about them, especially if they have never done modeling before in order to make them feel more comfortable in front of the camera. Some people believe that having your photograph taken is a very intimate and personal thing as you are in essence capturing a bit of their spirit, the light they reflect or give up. This lightmonkey does not totally agree with this, but will not dismiss the possibility neither. Perhaps Dave Grohl was right when he sang the tune, “they’re just photo’s after all…”
Anyway, all in all it was a successful day and the photographs turned out great.
